DHN, a New Associated Organization to EADH

26 Apr 2016 (All day)

In recent years, the need for intensified collaboration between the Nordic countries within all aspects of digital humanities has become more and more evident. Not least, cultural and linguistic similarities lay the ground for comparative studies and collaborative development of resources. For this reason, an Associated Organisation to EADH was established at a constituting meeting in Oslo in April last year. Administration the first three years is funded through the Centre for Digital Humanities, University of Gothenburg, which thus for now serves as the first administrative base of the organization. Digital Humanities in the Nordic Countries currently counts 144 members.

The first conference of the organization took place at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian National Library 15-17 May this year. Interest far surpassed our expectations: this initiating conference gathered 220 participants (34 from institutions in Denmark, 41 Finland, 5 Iceland, 73 Norway, 52 Sweden and 15 other countries). Three plenary lectures offered grand perspectives, while some 80 presentations addressed a wide range of momentuous issues. The successful arrangements of the local organizers and the program committee have set a high standard future DHN activities – this challenge is to be met as the next conference is arranged in Gothenburg in March next year.
